- Caring for Your Porcelain Doll
All collectible dolls should be dusted regularly to avoid the need for any further more aggressive maintenance of the doll. Should you however find yourself in the position that you have been unable to dust your doll collection for some time and the doll requires a deeper cleaning the following are brief instructions on the cleaning process that should be followed:-
First remove the dust from your doll. This can be easily done by using your hair dryer on cool setting, and directing the air flow toward the doll. The top layer of dust should be gone. You can also use a soft, clean cotton cloth for this purpose. More stubborn on the doll’s clothing and hair can be removed with a can of compressed air, similar to what you would use to clean a computer keyboard.
Once the dust is gone, if the doll still appears grubby, gently wipe the doll with a cloth that has been dipped into cold water. The idea is to have the cloth or cotton swab just wet enough to clean, but not wet enough to cause the water to drip or run. A cotton swab or soft ear bud dipped in water can be used for cleaning the ears, eyes and mouth.
If the doll is still not completely clean, you can try a tiny bit of mild dish washing liquid. Use circular motion while cleaning, and very light pressure. Carefully rinse away any soap residue. Make sure your doll dries completely.
Weekly dusting of your doll should prove sufficient and the above cleaning method would then not be necessary.
